Overhaul update

The trailing end. The lower section of the dragbox is now finally positioned for riveting , due to start next week: 12th June 2017.

Later in the day, the new pads against which the tender intermediate buffers will bear were also fitted.

The view between the frames as the various components of the dragbox are brought together for riveting. The top section will be done after what is shown here is finished; the order as had to be worked out to allow the riveting tools access to the less accessible areas.

Also added during the day were the longitudinal stretchers between the hind buffer beam and first cross stretcher forward. There are four of these; this shows the left hand two in place.

The dragbox top section, showing two strengtheners for the auxiliary drawbars and the much bigger one for the main drawbar. Also seen is the new drawbar pin and, right, the brackets, one for each side, which support the cab outboard of the frames.

This is taken from the left side showing the first cross stretcher forward of the buffer beam and the two forward longitudinal stretchers which will mate with the second cross stretcher forward, the one which will carry the firebox steady bracket.

Cleaning and painting continue, of course. The frames around the left hand trailing horn gap have been cleaned down to the metal; the same area on the other side is in an advanced state.
