Overhaul update

This is some of the kit needed to carry out the riveting; the shot was taken whilst the paid staff were on their break.

Paint has been applied inside the drag box and on the cab’s rear buffer beam for protection. Visible underneath are the two mounting brackets and plate for the brake crank which will be re-fitted sometime in the future.

Operating the magnetic drill at the front of the front cross member 0f the drag box. These holes will be riveted in due course. The shiny (“ish") rectangle to the right is the back of the rear LH horn guide for the axle box.

The trailing wheelset. The spring gear and horn clips have been removed and the right hand axlebox (nearest camera) has a lifting sling attached, ready for this to be removed

The spring assemblies, which as always are in a filthy condition. The wheelset is visible in the top left corner.

A next stage is to prepare and refit the cab outer sections. The triangular support bracket will be removed as its replacement is already riveted to the frames.

That for the right hand side shows both brackets in place with a machined dowel to ensure accurate alignment.

More of the lubrication pipework has been refitted; this to the right hand cylinder. The atomiser will soon be remounted and the pipes to the valve chest joined to it.

Today saw the final rivet in the dragbox assembly driven home. These views were taken before this event.

More parts refettled and ready for reattachment. The round objects are the pivots for the brake bellcrank, the A brackets for which are already riveted below the dragbox.

The view from rear forward, with the forward vertical stretcher showing the firebox support bracket prominent.
