Overhaul update

The frame repair complete, and with the first coats of primer paint applied. Work can start on replacing the components removed to allow it.

The section of running plate above the repair had had to be taken out. It is being replaced by new steel as the original holes had worn oval. Here and SMF volunteer drills the new holes in the replacement steel.

The left hand cab side is temporarily positioned to allow alignment checks to be made and mounting holes drilled in the new supporting steelwork behind. Similarly replaced is the rear diaphragm panel with the holes in its; this supports the rear of the cab’s wooden floorboards and the tender fall plate.

Later, the rear stanchion was also trial fitted. This applies support to the cab side sheet and holds the door to the tender. This was not fitted at this time.

The new cab footsteps, ready for painting and fitting. They cannot yet be attached as they would impinge on the jack beam.

Yet another new piece of flooring below the floorboards; The three holes allow the tender drawbar pins to be removed.

Inside the frames, the swivel pin for the pony truck is bolted back in place, awaiting the riveters.
