13268 runs on mainline metals for the first time since the 1990s!
In readiness for its appearance Rail 200: The Greatest Gathering, LMS Stanier Mogul no 13268 was towed by BR Class 50 50049 Defiance in what has been termed ‘the convoy of the decade’ consisting of BR Class 40 40106 Atlantic Conveyor, GWR Hall Class no 4930 Hagley Hall, LMS Restaurant First Open no 7511, LMS Composite Coach no 24617, GWR Nondescript Saloon, GWR Bow-end Composite and Class 108 DMU nos 51941 & 52064.

Both 13268 and 4930 ran in light steam for lubrication and braking purposes. This represents the first outing for the Stanier Mogul on the national network in over 25 years and the first run with its Fowler tender since preservation.

We’re looking forward to meeting visitors at the Greatest Gathering event taking place at Alstom works – Litchurch Lane Derby on the 1st – 3rd August. This event will be the largest gathering of historic and modern trains in the world for a generation. It is a great honour that 13268 will be in attendance, accompanied by our membership and sales stand team in the exhibition area, so do pop by for a chat. The Stanier Mogul will be in light steam with its footplate open for visitors.

If you’re interested in supporting our work, including exciting initiatives such as this, please consider joining the Fund or making a contribution; you will be made most welcome. Thank you to our friends at the Severn Valley Railway – its Steam Engineering Services in particular – and to West Coast Railway Company for making this historic transit possible.
